We have learnt about the setting (where the story takes place), characters (the people and animals in the story) and the plot (important events in the story, including the problem and solution).

Setting: House/Cottage, Forest/Woods.

Characters: Goldilocks, Three bears.

Plot:What happened in the beginning, middle and end. Problem: Goldilocks welcomed herself into someone elses house. Solution: She escaped from the three bears into the woods.

Some questions you can ask your child:
Where does the story take place?
Where was the setting in Goldilocks and the three bears?
Can you name the characters in the story?
What happened in the beginning of the story?

Persuasive writing, Week 2

Hi Parents and Caregivers,

This week we are learning how to write a piece of persuasive writing. We tried two fruits and two vegetables to help us write a piece of persuasive writing. Our fruit was strawberries, Our vegetables were cucumber, carrots and peas.

To write a piece of persuasive writing we need:
Capital Letter to start our sentence.
A full stop to end our sentence.
The word 'because' to join our ideas.
Our opinion about why we like our fruit or vegetable.

For example: I like the strawberry because it is red and juicy.

Nikhila: 'I like the cucumber because it is soft and slippery'.
Joshua: 'I like the strawberry because it is juice and cold'.

Shannon: 'I like the peas because it is yummy'.
Kellie: 'I like the carrot because it is healthy'.

Maths Probability, Friday Week 1

Hi Parents and Caregivers,

We are learning about probability in Room 22 this term. With probability we are seeing the likelihood of simple events and learning about how to use everyday language to talk about chance.

Some key words we are learning: same, different, pairs, lucky, luckier, most, least, next, last.

On friday we looked at the story 'Jack and the beanstalk'. We talked about key items Jack saw on the way to get the magic beans and on the way to the giants castle. The Key words we used were: certain, possible, or impossible. For example: Is it certain, possible or impossible that Jack will see a tree on his way to the market? Answer: Certain. Is it certain, possible or impossible that Jack will see a hedgehog on his way to the market? Answer: Possible. Is it certain, possible or impossible that Jack will see a octopus on his way to the market? Answer: Impossible.

Sunflowers, Friday Week 1

Hi Parents and Caregivers,

On friday week 1 we planted sunflowers. First we packed the soil into our pots. Then we put a sunflower seed in the centre and put soil on top. Last we poured some water on the soil to help our sunflower grow. Over the weeks we are going to look after our sunflower and see how they grow.

Photos 1 & 2: We waited patiently to place soil in our pots outside the classroom.

Photos 3 & 4: Miss Watson talked about the soil and how it helps plants to grow. We measured how much soil we needed by using our finger and a cup.

Classroom, Week 1

Hi Parents and Caregivers,

This term in Room 22 we are learning about gardening and how to look after a garden. We will be planting sunflower seeds and watching them grow. This will help us learn how to look after a plant and what a plant needs to survive.

We have a new garden centre in our classroom to help with our writing. In writing we are learning to write a piece of persuasive writing. For example: I like the apple because it is red and juicy.

Our Library corner has also changed into a castle. In our library corner we will read big books, library books and poems during reading time.

Come in and visit us in the morning and read a book with your child. This will help with our fluency and expression when reading.

Thank you Nikki & Kyle
